Stockholm Palace is the world's biggest royal castle that is still being used. It is the official residence of the Swedish royal family. This palatial building comprises around 608 rooms. This palace is situated in the old town of Gamla Stan.
In the year 1697 the construction work of this royal palace started under the supervision of a renowned architect, Nicodemis Tessin. The work was completed in 1754. The interior decoration of this building reflects Rococo and Baroque style.
Mainly artists from Europe contributed a lot in the room decoration of Stockholm Royal Palace. The Hall of State, Royal Apartments, Treasury, Apartments of the Orders of Chivalry, Museum of Antiquities and Armory of Gustav III and Tre Kronor Palace Museum are some of the prominent attractions of Stockholm Palace.

This royal palace of Stockholm has been constructed, when the medieval castle, Tre Kronor was burnt down in 1697. Stockholm Palace is built on the same ground, which was formerly occupied by the Tre Kronor palace. Presently, Tre Kronor Palace Museum can be seen in the palace premises. The staircase of Stockholm Palace is made of marble.
While roaming around the Hall of State, visitors will come across the silver throne of Queen Kristina. Other than this, in the Armory, there are carriages, costumes and weapons. On the other hand, in the Antiquities museum, Gustav III's collection and sculptures are exhibited.
In this Stockholm Palace ground “Changing of the Guard'' ceremonies are also held. Presently, King Carl XVI Gustav resides in this magnificent palace.
