Stockholm Observatory is one of the favorite tourist spots in Sweden which is basically the Astronomy Department of Stockholm University. It is located at 21 Roslagstullsbacken. The observatory was set up in the year of 1748.
Presently, Stockholm Observatory is part of Stockholm University and looks after 2 historical observatories. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences first took the initiative to set up this observatory. It was constructed under the supervision of Per Elvius.
Carl Harleman had been the chief designer of this observatory. At present, the observatory is treated as a museum and is frequented by a number of foreign tourists.

The Stockholm Observatory imparts number of courses to the students and encourages scientific research works. Some of these courses include Basic and advanced courses, Bachelor and Master Degree in Astronomy and Orientation courses. On the other hand, the research works that take place inside this Stockholm Observatory are related to Solar Physics, Infrared Astronomy, Planetary Systems, High-energy Astrophysics and Observational Cosmology.
Throughout the year a huge number of seminars are held over here. Many of the renowned Swedish scientists are closely attached with this observatory of Sweden. Often the visitors get the chance to meet famous explorers and astronomers from all over the world.
On Sunday, this observatory remains open from 12 pm to 3 pm. For adults, the management charges a nominal entry fee of 50 SEK for adults and 25 SEK for children.
