Nationalmuseum Stockholm is a one of the popular tourist sites in Stockholm and also the biggest art museum in Sweden. The museum building has great architectural features whose designs are based on the patterns of Venetian and Florentine Renaissance structures. The collection belongs to the 16th century. The museum was opened to the public in 1866.

- Drawing and Prints: The museum has a huge collection of printed items and sketches that have been gathered during the tour of Carl Gustaf Tessin, ambassador of Sweden to France. There are art works Watteau, Johan Tobias Sergel, Edouard Manet, Carl Fredrik Hill and Carl Larsson.
- Modern design and applied art: This collection dates back to the 14th century. Almost 30, 000 items are found here. These include glass, textiles, furniture, precious as well as non-precious metals and books.
- Sculptures and Paintings: The total collection of

paintings as well as sculptures amounts to about 16,000. It comprises the paintings and art works of great artists like Rubens, Rembrandt, Goya, Degas, Renoir and Gauguin. The 17th century Dutch paintings are also seen here at the museum.
- Royal Castles Collections: This includes engravings, paintings, sculptures and drawings that belong to the Royal Palaces of Strömsholm, Drottningholm, Rosersberg, Ulriksdal and Gripsholm.

The library is one of the biggest and specializes in applied art. The collection includes everything covering the renaissance period to the modern times. The literature comprises auction catalogues, art catalogues and artist monographs.

The museum is open on Tuesdays between 11 am and 8 pm. From Wednesdays to Sundays, the opening
hours are between 11 am and 5 pm. On Mondays the museum is closed. On all the Thursdays that fall between 1 September and 31 May, the museum closes at 8 pm. To enter the museum admission fee is a must. Children below 19 years of age have free admission. Besides, those visiting the museum in a group of 15, senior citizens and students get concession fee. Visitors to the museum can also enjoy delicious meal at the Atrium Restaurant at the museum's inner courtyard.
