National Library Sweden is also known as the Kungliga biblioteket in Swedish which means the Royal Library. The National Library of Sweden is presently located at Humlegarden Park in the city of Stockholm. Swedish books and literature on foreign languages are kept in this library of Stockholm.

National Library Sweden has been set up at Humlegarden Park in Stockholm on 2nd January in 1878. It preserves a wide collection of books and printed materials that are available in Swedish. The vast collection of National Library of Sweden in Stockholm also includes those works published outside Sweden but in association with the country.
At the National Library Sweden, book lovers can also check out the literatures of other countries. It has a notable collection of Slavonic literature. From Moscow and Leningrad, the National Library of Sweden bought several books in 1953. Sweden’s National Library and Lenin Library decided to exchange their literature by an agreement of 1964.

Ordinance of Privy Council Chancery of Sweden (1661)
The Privy Council Chancery of Sweden issued an ordinance in 1661. According to the ordinance, it became mandatory to collect each and every printed works of the country. Thus 2 copies of every work published in Sweden had to be sent to the Chancery. The copies had to be sent before they were distributed among the public.
One copy of the published work was sent to the National Library of the country. The other copy was sent to the National Archives, also known as the Riksarkivet. The copies of the published works were collected to keep a check on the content of the works.
The National Library serves as a research library and also coordinates with other research libraries of the country. The National Library of Sweden functions as a government agency. The ISBN Agency of Sweden is also a part of this institution. The library is assigned to maintain LIBRIS or the Library Information System.
Visiting National Library Sweden
The National Library of Sweden remains open from Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 8 pm. On Friday it can be visited between 9 am to 7 pm and on Saturday between 10 am to 5 pm. The library remains closed on Sunday.
