Drottningholm Palace Theatre is one of the popular theaters of Stockholm. The theater house has also received international acclamation. This theater of Stockholm is also known as Drottningholms Slottsteater. Nicodemus Tessin the Elder designed the Drottningholm Palace Theatre in the 17th century. The construction of the theater was completed by Nicodemus Tessin the Younger.
Drottningholm Palace Theatre was inaugurated by Carl Fredrikin Adelcrantz in the year 1766. The theater was opened in honor of Queen Lovisa Ulrika. The interiors of Drottningholm Palace Theatre were initially designed in Baroque style, but later the French style was adopted.
About 400 people could be accommodated in this theater hall. The theaters often appointed the deus ex machina techniques for the performances on stage. In

1792, after the death of King Gustavus III, the theater was closed down.
The Drottningholm Palace Theatre was renovated in 1920 under the initiative of Agne Beijer. Electric lights were incorporated in the theater house. Many private organizations and the government of Sweden offers grants to the Drottningholm Palace Theatre.
Drottningholm Palace Theatre in Stockholm has hosted works by Mozart, Handel, Hayden and Gluck. The Royal Swedish Opera has also performed at the Drottningholm Palace. From 1980 to 92, Arnold Ostman was appointed as the Artistic Director of Drottningholm Palace Theatre. Later, Elisabeth Soderstrom took over the charge from 1993 to 96. Her responsibilities as an Artistic Director of the theater was handed over to Per-Erik Ohrn in 1996. In 2007, Mark Tatlow was appointed as the new Artistic Director of Drottningholm Palace Theatre.
