Stockholm Districts


Stockholm Districts provides comprehensive overview of the administrative divisions of the municipality. Stockholm municipality comprises 14 districts, each of which is headed by a District Council responsible for carrying out several important political and administrative functions within the geographical limits.

Districts of Stockholm

The districts of Stockholm are administered by the City Councils and the District Councils. The City Council consists of elected members who have been unanimously selected by the local population through general elections. The City Council, in turn directly recruits members to the District Council from its own composition. Some of the prominent districts of Stockholm Municipality include:
  • Bromma- Encompassing a population of 60,000, Bromma district is known for its vast reserve of natural resources
  • Farsta- Located in the southern corner of Stockholm, Farsta comprises a total population of 46,000
  • Norrmalm- The Norrmalm district has a total population of 62,000, most of whom belong to the category of senior citizens
  • Rinkeby- Kista- Representing the multi-religious and multi-cultural scenario of Stockholm, Rinkeby- Kista district consists of a mixed population of 45,000
  • Sodermalm- Sodermalm district includes several places of tourist interests of Stockholm.
Comprising a total population of 110,000, Sodermalm reflects the unique cultural heritage and traditional legacy of Sweden Some of the other notable districts in Stockholom consist of Spanga-Tensta, Hasselby- Vallingby, Ostermalm, Kungsholmen, Hagesten- Liljeholmen, Skarholmen, Alvsjo, EnskedeArsta- Vantor and Skarpnack.

Functions of the District Councils and City Councils of Stockholm
