Christer Fuglesang is an experienced astronaut who is at present working with the European Space Agency (ESA). He is involved with NASA and ESA in the support activities required for the International Space Station.
Christer Fuglesang's Life and Career
Christer Fuglesang was born on 18th March, 1957 in the city of Stockholm in Sweden. Since his childhood he has been interested in different activities like skiing, sailing, Frisbee, reading and games. In the year 1975, he became a graduate from Bromma Gymnasium in Stockholm. He also studied at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm and obtained a masters degree in Science with Engineering Physics in 1981.
Christer Fuglesang studied Experimental Particle Physics from the University of Stockholm and received a doctorate degree in the year 1991. He got married to Elizabeth Walldie and is blessed with three children. In 2006, he had been working as an affiliated professor with KTH.
Fuglesang's Work Experience
1988: He was working with European Research Centre on Particle Physics (CERN) while doing his graduation in Geneva and worked on the UA5 experiment and later CPLEAR experiment
1990: He worked on the Large Hadron Collider project
1992: Joined ESA's Astronaut Corps in Germany
1993: Completed his training from European Astronaut Centre and Cosmonaut Traning center. He was then chosen for the Euromir 95 mission for which his training started at the TsPK Moscow
1995: Joined Crew 2 as a member for Euromir 95

1996: He served as a Prime Crew Interface coordinator. He was also trained in de-docking, landing and atmospheric re-entry
1998: He joined NASA-JSC working for technical operations on Russian transfer vehicles at the Astronaut Office Station Operations System Branch
1999: He carries on his investigation of light flashes with the SilEye experiment which he started in 1995. He has contributed in initiating the DESIRE project and also calculating the ISS radiation environment
2002: Served as a Mission Specialist for the STS-116 Space Shuttle

Fuglesang's Flight in Space
Fuglesang was part of the STS-116 mission between 9th and 22nd December 2006. As a Mission Specialist, he flew the Space Shuttle named Discovery and landed on the International Space Station. He was the first astronaut from Sweden who flew in space.
Christer Fuglesang famous works included spacewalk participation, attaching space station to the new hardware, to reset electrical power system of the station and participate in Extra Vehicular Activities.
