AIK Hockey


AIK Hockey is a very popular ice hockey club of Sweden. The AIK sports club was established in 1891 in Stockholm. The department for ice hockey was started later in 1921. The club was set up in Stockholm but in 1937 the club was shifted to Solna.

Though the AIK Hockey club is presently located in Solna, yet the matches are held in Hovet in Stockholm. The club also arranges matches at Globen. This club has also received the opportunity to play in Allsvenskan, one of the noted leagues, played in Sweden.

Jimmy Danielsson, Larsson-Tysell, Fredrik Carlsson,
Johan Adolfsson, Jonas Westerling, Andreas Frisk and Daniel Strom are some of the noted players for AIK Hockey club in Sweden. The captain of the present AIK Hockey team is David Engblom. The chairman of the club is Mats Hedenstrom.

The AIK club is also known as Allmanna Idrottsklubben or the "general sports club". For seven times this sports club for hockey has won the Swedish Championship. It has won the championship in the years of 1934, 1938, 1936, 1935, 1982, 1947 and 1984. For 6 times the club has turned out to be the runner up of the Swedish Championship. In the league matches, the club has participated in 36 seasons.
