Colombo Royal College is a prominent educational institute in Sri Lanka. In the year 1835 this Colombo college was established at Rajakeeya Mawatha, Colombo - 7. Sir Robert Wilmot Horton, the Governor of Ceylon is the founding member of this college. It offers primary as well as secondary-level education and is controlled by the Ministry of Education. Colombo Royal College belongs to an IAB category. Basically this category of educational institute hold classes from Grade-one to Grade-thirteen. This Royal college has around 7000 students and 275 teachers.
About the Royal College of Colombo
The media of instruction in this college are Tamil and Sinhalese. In the year 2001, the college started to conduct Grade-12 and Grade-13 classes in English. Next, year this medium was also introduced in Grade-6. In this government college Biology, Information Technology, Environmental Studies, Chemistry, Business Studies, Physical Science, Bio-Science and a number of Arts and Commerce subjects are taught.
Usually, in the level of Grade-1 about 400 students are taken, whereas, at the Grade-6 around 25 students in Tamil medium and around 225 students in Sinhala medium are taken. On the other hand, at the Grade- 12 level, students are selected for admission on the basis of their excellence in their O Level results and sports

Colombo College Facilities
This college ground extends over an area of 34 acres. Recently, an Information Technology Center has been introduced in the college. The college features auditoriums and 10 scientific laboratories. This college highly encourages its pupils to participate in the sports activities. A Sports Complex has been set up here. It features basketball courts and squash courts. Rugby football ground can also be found here. Apart from this, there are 2 cricket grounds, a well-equipped gym, swimming pool, tennis and volleyball courts. Physical training occupies an important part in the curriculum of the college.
the Royal College Clubs
This Colombo Royal College comprises 50 clubs. Some of them are Science Club, Red Cross Society, Philatelic Society and Art Circle. There is also a First Aid Center in this college complex. 2 dental clinics are also there. This college has become quite popular for its student counseling services.
Mr. P.U. Muhandiram is the Vice Principal of this college. Mrs. S.N. Amarasekera, is the Deputy Principal of the middle school.
