The President House Colombo previously served as the Queen's House of Sri Lanka until the year 1972 when Sri Lanka was declared as a Republic. From 1972, the President House officially accommodated the President of Sri Lanka.

The President House of Colombo served the residential purposes of several rulers who ruled over Sri Lanka during the colonial period. In the year of 1804, the magnificent edifice served as the residence of the then Governor of Ceylon and was referred to as the Government House.
