Valencia Metro


Valencia Metro is a narrow gauge railway that consists of 4 lines. Inaugurated in 1988, the metro system of Valencia connects the different parts of the city. The metro is, in fact, one of the most convenient modes of transport in the city. It makes traveling in this Spanish city easy and fast.

Valencia Metro consists of four lines. It is a narrow gauge line that comprises 6 terminals namely Tossal del Rei, Rafelbunyol, Lliria, Neptu, Sant Miquel dels Reis and Mas del Rosari. The metro in Valencia has 143,884 km of network that encompasses the entire city, together with its suburbs. The metro system has about 24,178 km of tunnel. Valencia Metro has 128 stations and halts. Underground stations of the metro system add up to 31. The network has 97 trains, 130 escalators and 62 lifts.

Valencia Metro was inaugurated in 1988 with the opening of Line 1 that connected Betera, Lliria and Rafelbunyol with Villanueva de Castellon. Line 4 of Valencia metro system was opened in 1994. At the
onset, Line 4 covered about 9.7 km of area. The third line or Line 3 of the metro was opened in 1995. This line connected Palmaret to Alameda. In 1998, the line was extended from Alameda station to Avenida del Cid. In the same year, the line between Jesus and Colon was opened. With the opening of this new section, lines 1 and 2 were joined together. Line 4 was extended up to Feria Valencia in 1999. In the same year, Line 3 was extended up to Mislata-Almassil.

New Empalme station of Valencia Metro was inaugurated in 2001. This station served as the link between tramline 4 and Line 1. The first section of a newly opened Line 5 came into operation in 2003. This line connected Manises Airport to Valencia seafront.

At present, Valencia Metro is one of the most important modes of transport in the city. It helps the commuters of the city to reach their destinations with ease and comfort. The metro system at Valencia has greatly solved the problem of traveling in this city of Spain.
