Universidad Complutense, Madrid is one of the oldest, largest and most prestigious universities of Spain. The history of this university can be traced back to 13th century. It has produced a greater part of European intelligentsia. It offers 80 majors, 230 individual degrees and 221 doctorate programs.

One of the oldest universities in the world, the origin of Universidad Complutense, Madrid can be traced back to 13th century. This university was known as 'studia' when it was founded by King Sancho IV of Castilla. It was renamed as 'Universidad Complutense de Madrid' in 1970. The University is positioned in the Ciudad Universitaria district of the city. Universidad Complutense also has its campuses in Somosaguas district and in the city of Pozuelo de Alarcon.

The different departments of this university include Psychology, Spanish Literature, Schools of Philosophy, History, Pharmacy, Journalism, Sociology and Optometry. Besides that, the School of Medicine runs the Hospital Clinico Universitario de San Carlos and many other clinics within the campus itself.

In the academic year of 2004-2005 the university had nearly 91,598 students and 9,500 staff of which 6000 were involved in teaching. Universidad Complutense has 30 libraries. The archive has a collection of over 90,000 historical documents. The University offers different scholarship programs for the needy students and also offers accommodation options at the halls of residence for international students.

Universidad Complutense also organizes many co-curricular activities other than regular academic programs. It promotes yoga, gym, swimming, aerobics, tennis, diving, tai-chi, basketball, soccer, karate, judo,
volleyball divisions, badminton, chess, rugby, squash, golf as well as many performing arts.

Admission Details of Universidad Complutense

In order to secure admission at the university, the foreign students need to fill up the online admission form and show an official IELTS or TOEFL score. The undergraduate students need to acquire a minimum of 500 paper-based marks and in case of post graduate students they need to fill submit the scores of an international language examination. Students who are not up to the mark have the provision fro attending language classes before joining the courses.
