The Technical University of Madrid came into being in 1971 when several independent departments were merged. The university has its campuses at various places of Madrid. It offers degrees in Naval Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Software Engineering and so on.

Technical University of Madrid is one of the most reputed institutions of Spain. It is also known as the Polytechnic University of Madrid. The departments of this university existed independently since 17th century. This university came into being in 1971 when these departments were merged. The Schools of Architecture and Engineering have written the history of Spanish technology.

Most of the famous names in the areas of teaching and research in these fields are associated with the Technical University of Madrid. During its early years, the university mainly had courses on mathematics, astronomy, geometry and music as well as 4 Liberal Arts departments. Technical studies became popular in Spain with the establishment of the Royal Academy of Mathematics in Madrid in the year 1582. The establishment of this institution was promoted by King Philip II who laid its foundation. In 1845, the Escuela Especial de Bellas Artes was established as an autonomous institution. These institutions were later merged together to form the Technical University of Madrid.
