The foundation of Real Madrid club was laid in 1902. The game was introduced in the city by the Insitucion de Libre de Ensenanza. Initially the group laid the foundation of the Football Sky. Later on the club was divided into the Club Espanol de Madrid and the New Foot-Ball de Madrid. The club Espanol de Madrid underwent a further split and came to be known as the Sociedad Madrid FC. its first tournament win. It emerged as four time champions of the Copa del Rey tournament. This club then underwent a change of name and is now called Real Madrid.

The Santiago Bernebeu Stadium is the home ground of Real Madrid. The stadium can accommodate as many as 80,000 spectators and has played host to some of the major games like the European Cup finals in 1957, 1969 and 1980. The 1982 FIFA World Cup Final was also organized at this stadium.
