The Las Ventas is a tourist attraction in Madrid of a different kind. It is a bullring famous throughout the world. The construction of the Las Vestas in Madrid was facilitated by the fact that in the years between 1915-1920, bull fighting as a sport attained great popularity amongst the residents of Madrid. The need to construct an arena for organizing the same was greatly felt. The bullring that would be consequently built was supposed to admit more spectators than the existing one at the Carretera de Aragon.
The initial design of the building was prepared by the famous architect Jose Espeliu. The bullring was constructed on a land possessed by a wealthy family. Architecture of the Las Vestas
The architecture of the Las Vestas was in adherence to the Mozarabic style. This style is typical of the northern areas of Spain. These structures were mostly built by the people who hailed from the southern part of the country, which was identified as the Moorish part. The seats in the arena are divided in rows of 27. These are known as “tendidos”.
The Official Box at the arena is located in the 10th tendido. The facade of the Las Ventas displays an intricate architectural work. The arena has a total of five gates. These are gates are the entry points through which the bull makes its way into the arena. The biggest of all these gates is the Puerto Grande. It is also known as the Big Door.
