Han River


The Han River is an important geographical feature in Seoul, South Korea. Running through Seoul, the river divides the city into northern and southern parts. The origin of the river lies in the western slopes of the T'aebaek-Sanmaek Mountains.

The Han River along with its surrounding areas made significant contributions to the history of Korea. Korea was divided into three kingdoms and all of them wanted to take control over the river as well as the land around it. The navigable Han River in Seoul was also used extensively for maintaining trade relations with China.

Han River, Seoul stretches up to a length of 514 kilometers, out of which, only 320 kilometers are navigable. There are many tributaries and sub-tributaries of River Han, Seoul. Some of the important tributaries are as follows:

Presently, the Han River has also become a popular tourist destination. There are facilities of cruising along the river. Apart from that, there are also facilities of swimming, yachting, fishing, water skiing and many more. Various types of sports are also enjoyed on the banks of the Han River of Seoul, which include basketball, soccer, volleyball and many more. There are also many parks that have developed on the banks of the Korean river.
