Seoul Fringe Festival


Seoul Fringe Festival, which began its journey in 1998, is an annual festival that takes place in the theatres and galleries in and around Hongik University of Seoul. Some of the major events of this festival are Performing Arts Festival, Music Festival, Asian Independent Film Festival, Visual Arts Festival and Street Festival.

Seoul Fringe Festival, Korea is held every year. The festival began its journey in 1998. It originally took place in Edinburgh of Scotland. The word ‘Fringe’ means a cultural festival. About 70 Fringe festivals are celebrated in various parts of the world now. Originating from the Asian Fringe Festival, the Seoul Fringe Festival is organized in and around theatres and galleries of Hongik University of Seoul.

One of the major highlights of the Seoul Fringe Festival of Korea is the Hongik University’s Club Day that takes place on the last Friday of August. It is best enjoyed between 10 pm and 5 am as it brings out the true spirit of Korean non-mainstream music.
Seoul Fringe Festival of South Korea organizes various kinds of events like:

The Performing Arts Festival takes place at Igudongseong that displays various styles of performing arts. The Music Festival is held at Goseongbangga that presents different musical forms from traditional Korean classical music to rock music. The Visual Arts Festival held at Naebugongsa is absolutely free of charge whereby a large number of artists present their art exhibitions. The Street Festival of Junggunanbang displays various kinds of performances and exhibitions openly on the street.

One can easily reach Hongik University by taking Line 2 of Hongdaeipgu Station. The university is only 10 minutes from Exit 5/6 of the station.
