Seoul Foreign School


Seoul Foreign School (SFS) provides a western style of education to the international students with a great deal of emphasis on the values of Christianity. It was established in 1912 by Mrs. Charles S. Deming of the Methodist Mission. The school is situated at Yeonhui-dong, Seodaemun-gu. The school has the accreditation of Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Seoul Foreign School of Korea is a member of the following associations:
  • Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI)
  • National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS)
  • Federation of British Schools in South East Asia (FOBISSEA)
The school is also associated with the Council of International Schools (CIS). Seoul Foreign School initially had only 27 students and only one full-time teacher named Miss Van Wagoner. It has now got students from about 52 nations like Australia, United States, Canada, Japan and UK. For enrolling themselves, the students must possess foreign (non-Korean) passports.

The four divisions of the Seoul Foreign School, Korea are:
  • Elementary Division: Students from pre-school to Grade V
  • British Division: Students in reception to Key Stage 3
  • Middle School: Students from Grade VI to VII
  • High School Division: Grade IX to XII
The 11 and 12th grade students are offered International Baccalaureate Diploma course. The administration of each of these divisions lies with its own management team. There is a central administrative office in the campus which has got the business office and other supporting staff of the school. The faculty for the Elementary, Middle, and High School are mainly from North America. On the other hand, the British Division has got teachers mainly from United Kingdom.

The school concerts are held at the Lyso Center for the Performing Arts. Besides, there is a coffee shop, a theater, a chapel and the SFS spirit shop. The indoor sports complex is composed of basketball courts, soccer field, tennis courts, two gymnasiums and one weight training room. The school also provides the bus facility for transportation.
