Seoul is the capital of South Korea. It is also its largest city. After the establishment of the Republic of Korea in 1948, Seoul was chosen as its capital. The city was regarded as the nation's Special City. The name 'Seoul' has been derived from the ancient Korean word Seorabeol, which means "capital city".
