King David Schools, Johannesburg


King David School, Johannesburg has three campuses in the city namely King David School Linksfield, King David School Victory Park and King David School Sandton. Each of the schools strive to inculcate Jewish values in the students.

King David Schools, Johannesburg is an assemblage of Jewish Day schools that has three campuses across the city. The campuses of King David Schools are located at Sandton, Linksfield and Victory Park. King David Schools, Johannesburg was constructed after the Jews met on April 1945 at Rose Gordon Nursery School. At the meeting, the Jews discussed on the need of establishing a Jewish Day school in the city of Johannesburg.

King David School Linksfield

King David School Linksfield came into existence in 1947, when a site was acquired by the Jewish Board of Education in Linksfield. In the beginning, the school had only Standards VI, VII and VIII. A separate high school was founded in 1955 at the site which at present houses Northview High School. Mr Norman Sandler was appointed as the first headmaster of the King David School. Later in 1960, the high school building was shifted to the site, which was next to King David Primary School. King David High School was officially inaugurated on 3rd April 1960.

Admission at King David High School Linksfield can be sought at Grade 8. For admission, students are required to fill an application form, as well as take a written test. Reports of the student's primary school are also required to be submitted at the time of admission. The reports of the primary school, performance in the entrance examination and the student's interest in the cultural activities are considered before they are admitted to the school.

King David School Linksfield is based on certain objectives, which are as follows:

King David School Linksfield offers a number of subjects for study.
Among the subjects offered in the school are English, French, Biology, Jewish Studies, Science, Afrikaans, History, Hebrew, Geography, Maths, Accounting, Speech and Drama, Music, Business Economics, Art, Typing, Technical Orientation, Additional Mathematics, Computer Studies, Home Economics and Music.

King David School Victory Park

King David School Victory Park includes pre-primary, primary and high schools. The school strives to:
  • Inculcate Jewish values in the students
  • Teach the students to respect the State of Israel
  • Nurture Judaic attribute, viz. kindness and deference
King David School Victory Park pays equal importance to both the academics and cultural activities. The cultural activities offered at the school include drama, art, creative writing competitions, choir, annual school musical production, debating, chess, music classes, video club, photography, RAPS play festival, sound and lighting and public speaking. Judai quizzes, Mitzvah school, Investment Business Game, different Olympiads and Junior City Council also form an integral part of the co-curricular activities in King David School Victory Park.

King David School Sandton

King David School Sandton is the third campus of the King David Schools. This campus of the school came into existence, when some of the parents of the pupils urged Hazel Bolnick to start a new school in Gallo Manor. During this period, a number of pupils had moved to Gallo Manor. As a result, the parents of the students asked Hazel Bolnick, who was an exceptional teacher, to open a new school under the name King David Sandton. Derrick Barnett, Milton Lutrin and Seymour Ellis are some of the parents who played an integral in the establishment of King David School Sandton.

King David School Sandton is situated in Woodmead and strives to strengthen the Jewish values. It features computer labs, audio-visual center, swimming pool, Israel center, tennis court and playing fields for the all-round development of the students.
