Table Mountain, located in southwestern region of South Africa, is one of the most eminent natural landmarks close to Cape Town. Dominating the northern section of the Peninsula, the mountain is characterized by a flat top. One of the favorite tourist spots of Cape Town, Table Mountain provides visitors the opportunity for enjoying several amusement activities like camping, hiking, etc.

Features of Table Mountain

A lush tip characterizes the 3 kilometers long tabular
shaped mountain. Valleys and brooks divide this highland. Table Mountain includes two summits namely Devil's Peak (3,281 feet) and Lion's Head (2,195 feet). Table Mountain stretches towards the west along the Atlantic shoreline. The assortment of peaks of Table Mountain is known as 'Twelve apostles'.

The flora and fauna of Table Mountain

The overcast on Table Mountain, described as 'Tablecloth', is formed by the wind blowing from the southeast. In winter season, the five mountain reservoirs are filled with rainwater carried by northwest wind. The climatic conditions of the plateau influence the growth of plentiful foliage. The vegetation of Table Mountain includes several types of orchids, daisies etc. The fauna of this region includes Himalayan goats. The highest tip of the highland is known as Maclear's Beacon, which is 3,563 feet high.
