Numbering to approximately 2.98 million as per the 2001 census, Cape Town people comprise various ethnic communities. The South African city houses a mixture of Colored (48.13%), Black South Africans (31.68%), Malays and Indians (1.43%). The descendants of European settlers like the English, Dutch and French also constitute 18.75% of the population.

Cape Town People- religion and language

The religions practiced by the people of Cape Town include Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism as well as indigenous beliefs. The most commonly used
language is Afrikaans. English is also frequently used, especially in the urbanized areas of Cape Town.

Located on the Spice Route to India, Cape Town was an important port for vessels belonging to various countries. The influences of different cultures are still reflected in the inhabitants of Cape Town. The lively and warm people, colorful festivities, spicy food, rituals and customs characterize the lifestyle of people of Cape Town.

Cape Malays- the ethnic group

One of the significant ethnic groups living in the Bo-Kaap region of Cape Town are the Cape Malays. Imported from parts of Asia, these people retain the specific culture of their own. They are also known for their contributions to the spread of Islam and the Afrikaans language.
