named for its similarity with a crouched lion. The settlers from England used to call the mountain 'Sugar Loaf'. The region close to Lion's Head is controlled and operated by the city government of Cape Town. The Cape Malay community is the natives settled in the region.

The upper region of this peak of Cape Town is made of flat sandstone while the lower side of the mountain is made of 'cape granite'. Plants called 'fynbos' have roofed the mountain and the mountain serves as the home of several small creatures.
