Initially known as the festival of 'One City Many Cultures', the Cape Town Festival is held in respect of the diversified cultures that make up the cultural heritage of the city and the country of South Africa as a whole. Given the social turmoil that the country has had to undergo during apartheid, this festival acts as a unifying factor for the people of different class, age, communities and groups.

Aiming to present the city as a united whole, the Cape Town Festival breaks the barrier of religion and language. The whole of the city assumes a gay ambiance that reflects the peace loving nature of the Capetonians.
The Cape Town Festival is a three day annual festival in Cape Town which is scheduled for the month of April every year. It will be celebrating its 9th anniversary in the year 2008 and will be held from the 25th of April to the 28th of April. The Company Garden is selected as the venue for this event.
