Cape Town City Council is a single municipal structure comprising 23 sub councils. Some of the functions of the council include sanctioning budget, election of mayor, loan raising, establishing various committees and so on.
The single municipal structure of Cape Town City Council has taken over the responsibilities of the six metropolitan local councils and also the Cape Metropolitan Council and replaced them. It is divided into 23 sub councils, which again comprise many wards.

Political Parties Represented in the Council
Cape Town City Council includes 210 councilors. Out of them, 105 councilors are elected and they function as ward councilors. The rest are nominated. They represent the municipal councils as well as local communities. The parties that are represented in the council include PAC, UDM, UP, VF, ACDP, AMP, NPP, ANC, DA, ID and SDP.
The councilors have to perform in a transparent way. They have to perform keeping in mind the interest of the municipality. While taking leave or withdrawing from any meeting a councilor has to follow the particular law set down by the council.

The non delegable powers of Cape Town City Council include election and removal of speaker, suspension of council, election of mayor, councilor, foundation of metropolitan sub councils, passing of laws, sanctioning budget, loan raising, foundation of different committees, appointing municipal manager, capital assets disposal and many more.
