About Cape Town City Ballet
The origin of Cape Town City Ballet dates back to 1934, when the UCT Ballet Company was formed. The company was made of the students of the Ballet School of UCT or the University of Cape Town. Along with them were staff members and professional ballet dancers.
Formerly known as CAPAB Ballet, Cape Town City Ballet became an independent company in 1994. Presently, the administrative department consists of a board of directors headed by Executive Director, Professor Elizabeth Triegaardt. The management of the company comprises a ballet master, principal conductor and company administrator. Marketing and publicity of the company is handled by Andrew Warth.

With 34 dancers, Cape Town City Ballet aims at promoting the art of ballet not only in Cape Town but in the entire region of South Africa as well as outside the country. The company has staged many ballet performances at one of the city's most renowned cultural venues, the Baxter Theater Center.
The company has produced excellent dance productions choreographed by professional ballet dancers. Some of the recent productions of Cape Town City Ballet include the following:

From three act ballets to classic ballets, Cape Town City Ballet has been producing a fascinating range of performances over the past decades.
One of the major problems that the ballet company has to face today is funds. Funds are difficult to obtain, but the company is making all efforts of attaining funds, so that this unique art does not get lost in the new age.
Cape Town City Ballet provides a platform for the local ballet artists to express their skills along with giving them an opportunity to present this art to the international audience.
