Cape Town administration comprises of the city council and the executive council.
Cape Town administration is mainly carried on by a city council, which forms the local government. Cape Town is a metropolitan municipality. The city council comprises of 210 members. A higher body known as the executive council supervises the working of the city council. There are 28 representatives in the executive council and the city council is accountable to the executive council.
Cape Town -administrative divisions
The control of the executive council rests with the executive mayor and the city manager. The entire city has been divided into several wards, numbering up to 105, to streamline the process of administration. The members of the Council are representatives of their

respective wards. The rest of them (another 105 members) become members of the city council by seeking election on the basis of party list proportional representation system.
Prior to the formation of the local government in Cape Town, the city was split up into regional administrations. There were six such administrations. These included The South Peninsula, Cape Town, the Blaauwberg region, Hedelberg and Oostenberg.
Cape Town-Mayor & City Manager
At present the executive Mayor Helen Zille heads the local administration of Cape Town. The city manager of Cape Town at present is Achmat Ebrahim. The city manager is a non-political office and is often said to be a non-political head of the local government.
