Zazerkalye is located at Rubinshtein Street of Saint Petersburg. Zazerkalye is a musical theater established for children in 1987. The word Zazerkalye means to look beyond a looking glass. P. Bubelnikov and A. Petrov took the initiative to set up this theater of Saint Petersburg. The Zazerkalye represents pieces from the conventional artists to the contemporary ones.
Zazerkalye is one of the famous theatrical houses in Saint Petersburg. The plays acted at Zazerkalye musical theater are primarily meant for children but they appeal to the grown ups also. The plays are very musical. The actors of the plays sing to the delight of the audience. The costume and the background set up of the plays are eye catching.
The plays performed at Zazerkalye Theater are accompanied by some of the classic musics that have become immortal over the times. The plays performed at the Zazerkalye have been awarded a number of times. Plays like B. Britten's Noah's Ark, S. Banevich's The Snuff-box City and I. Rogalev's Finist the Bright-eyed Falcon were recognized as “best play of the year” and received the award of Association of Theatre Workers of the
Russian Federation. In 1996 Gaetano Donizetti's Love Potion was given the award of Golden Sophite.
The Zazerkalye arranges tours to other parts of Europe. It takes part in international as well as in the national festivals. It went to take part in festivals in Pskov in 1992, Orenburg in 1991, Kostomuksha in 1996 and Samara in 1995. It toured to Moscow every year during 1989 to 1993. The troupe from Zazerkalye also visited Lubeck in Germany in 1993. Along with troupe of Boston Operafest, Zazerkalye performed The Medium, an opera by G. Menotti in Saint Petersburg and in USA.
