Volodarsky Bridge was built over the Neva River in honor of M. Volodarsky who actively participated in the Bolshevik Revolution. The architects G. Peredery, K.M.Dmitriev and A.S.Nikolsky have given design to this bridge.
In the year 1932 the construction work of Volodarsky Bridge started and 4 years later, in 1936 it opened its door to the public. At that time it was the major transportation way in the south-eastern part of Saint Petersburg. This bridge has a 2-way driving platform and a metallic drawbridge.
About the Architectural Style of Volodarsky Bridge

Volodarsky Bridge is around 325.4 meters long and 20.2 meters broad. Each of the spans of this bridge has 2 arches. Its drawbridge section, on the other hand, is also bordered by trusses. While talking about this well-built bridge, it should be mentioned that the constructors of it had first introduced the use of big gigantic pontoons in order to take heavy arches from the factory to the construction site of the bridge.
Quite simple architectural style was adopted to build this famous bridge. In the true sense, the construction of Volodarsky Bridge reflects the new style of arch support system. In 1971, this bridge was renovated. Later, in 1986, the Volodarsky Bridge was again modernized.
