Transfiguration Cathedral in Saint Petersburg was built by the orders of Czarina Elizabeth, the daughter of Peter the Great. This cathedral in Saint Petersburg was built to show respect to the soldiers, who had helped Princess Elizabeth get back her right to rule by overthrowing her substitute, Princess Ann.
The Transfiguration Cathedral is located in the Preobrazhenskaya Ploschad near the Liteiny District.

Empress Ann and her successor Ivan from power. The date of her visit to the Transfiguration Regiment was 24th of November, 1741.
On the 7th of December, 1741 Elizabeth was crowned the Empress. She had laid down the first stone for the foundation of the church. The actual construction work started in 1743 on June 9th. The original architect of Transfiguration Cathedral in Saint Petersburg was Mikhail Zemtsov but after his death, the responsibility passed over to Antonio Trezinni.
The area around the Transfiguration church had been beautified a year later. Stasov designed a special square including a number of rare flower plants. The cathedral complex also houses a number of cannons. These cannons were used by the Transfiguration regiment to fight the Turkish army at Varna.
