The Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theater is a very popular destination for the theater goers in Saint Petersburg. This theater house was previously known as the Kirov Opera and Ballet Theater. It came to be known by its present name, The Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theater from 1992.

During the Siege of Leningrad the theater house was damaged. Later in the year 1944 it was restored. Since then The Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theater in Saint Petersburg has remained a source of entertainment for the theater lovers in Russia. One of the major attractions of The Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theater is the performances of classical ballet. Under the conductor, Yuri Temirkanov the theater house received high acclamations. The present Chief Conductor of The Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theater is Valery Gergiev.
During the month of September, performances are not held at The Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theater. Visitors can collect their tickets from 11 am to 6.30 pm. The performance for evening show commences at 6.30 pm. The matinee shows at the Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theater begins from 11.30 am.
