The Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood in St. Petersburg Russia has a number of visitors all throughout the year. This church was built in the place where the assassination of Emperor Alexander II was executed. The construction work was carried out between the years 1883 to 1907. It was officially named as the Resurrection of Christ Church or The Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood.
History of The Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood
In 1855, Alexander II came to power and contributed to a number of reform activities. As because of this he was murdered in1881 by the revolutionary activists. After his death, the Royal Family took the initiative to build a church on the same spot where the King had been assassinated.The Imperial family donated almost all the amount required to build the church.

Designing The Church of Our Savior on Spilled Blood
The church was built in the Russian style with exquisite decorations in both the interiors and the exteriors. The main architect behind this exotic construction was A. Parland. The church has beautiful mosaics which were specially designed by Russian designers M.V. Nesterov, M.A. Vrubel and V.M. Vasnetsov. After the Bolshevik attack on the churches it remained closed during the 1930’s and was restored for almost 30 years. It was opened once again in the year 1997.
The church is located in Naberezhnaia kanala Griboyedova, St. Petersburg Russia. Tourists can enjoy a wonderful view of this beautiful church from Nevsky Prospect.
