The Blue Bridge is the broadest bridge in St. Petersburg, Russia right in between the City Hall and St. Isaac. This bridge was constructed over the Moika River and is 97.3 meters in width. The bridge, designed by popular architect V.I. Geste, is just opposite to the Mariinsky Palace in Isaakievskaia Ploshchad St. Petersburg. Isaakievskaya Square is adjacent to the bridge.
Architectural Features of the Blue Bridge
The Blue Bridge is considered to be the world’s widest bridge. The construction of the Blue Bridge was designed by the architect in 1818, just after designing

the first iron bridge in 1805. This bridge is supported on huge stones and made up of cast iron. . The length of the bridge is 41 meters. The Blue Bridge was extended in its width on the northern portion in the year 1843. The new width after reconstruction was calculated to be 319' 2''.
Naming the Blue Bridge
There are other bridges across the River Mioka. According to a tradition, since 19th century, these bridges are named according to their colors. So it is seen that the lower part of the Blue Bridge is blue in color. The other bridges include the Green, Red and Orange Bridges.
