History of Saint Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics
In the year 1900 in the Industrial School of Prince Nikolay, Optical-mechanical department was introduced. Few years later, in 1917 this department was reorganized in another educational institute known as Optical-Mechanical Technical College. Thereafter the Leningrad Institute of Fine Mechanics and Optics was introduced. In 1994 this institute got the technical university's status and became Saint-Petersburg State Institute of Fine Mechanics and Optics. Finally in 2003, this university was renamed as Saint-Petersburg State University of Information Technologies, Mechanics and Optics, ITMO.
