White Nights Festival


White Nights Festival is an important event in Saint Petersburg, Russia. This is an annual opera meet that brings together the best of ballet professionals of the city. The White Nights Festival commenced from the year 1993 and attracts several tourists from far and wide. An important part of the White Nights Festival is the Scarlet Sails Celebration which takes place for a month.

White Nights Festival: An Overview

The founder of the event, White Night Festival, is Valery Gergiev, the director of the Kirov. The approximate time, when the White Nights Festival is held is during the summer or spring time in Saint Petersburg. This is towards the end of June and beginning of July. Carnival of the White Nights Festival

During this event of the White Nights Festival, a carnival takes place in Saint Petersburg. This is when the participants of the opera festival dress up in special costumes and enact the historic events of the times of Catherine the Great and Peter the Great. This Carnival of White Night takes place exclusively in a place called Peterhof, located in the outskirts of Rome.
