The Northern Side of Palace Square: The Winter Palace
On the northern side of the Palace Square is located the majestic Winter Palace. This is grand Baroque style building, which was built between the years 1754 to 1762. This is a white and green edifice that supports 1057 halls with more than beautifully decorated 3000

doors and windows. This was the accommodation of the Czars and was built for Czarina Elizabeth.
The Western Side of Palace Square: Admiralty Building & Garden
On the western side of the Palace Square, stands the Admiralty building with the adjoining garden. The building was constructed in Russian Empire style by architect, Adrian Zakharov. The building dates back to the early 19th century.

To the South and Eastern sides of the Palace Square are located the buildings of the Army General staff and the Royal Guards General Staff respectively. The Alexander Column, located in the center of the square commemorates the victory of the Russian Army over the army of Napoleon under the leadership of Emperor Alexander I.
