Michel Fokine was a gifted Russian choreographer of the 20th century. In the year 1880 he was born in Saint Petersburg. His full name was Mikhail Mikhaylovich Fokine. Mr. Fokine was also a well-known dancer and a teacher. In the year 1898 he graduated from the Saint Petersburg's Imperial Ballet School and thereafter in 1904 he became the first solo performer at the theater of Mariinsky. Initially he choreographed the school programs and the special cultural events but over the time his field of work expanded.
Prominent Works of Michel Fokine
In 1905 "The Dying Swan" was composed by him. He choreographed it for a ballet dancer, Anna Pavlova. For the first time in 1907, he worked for the Imperial ballet of Russia, Pavillion d'Armide. Thereafter he introduced a plot less dance, Chopiniana, which is better known by the name Les Sylphides. Anna Pavlova performed Les Sylphides in Russia as well as in Australia

Mr. Fokine also worked for The Firebird and Scheherazade in 1910. On the other hand, in 1911 and 1914 he worked for Le Spectre de la rose and Le Coq d'or respectively. Not only in Russia, he also performed in America and Europe. He also played the role of a choreographer in different shows of Europe and America.
Added to this, Michel Fokine worked for Le Carnaval and Prince Igor. His other prominent works include Scheherazade, Petrouchka, Thamar and Le Spectre de la rose. In the year 1937 Fokine engaged himself with the world-famous de Basil's Ballets Russes. His wife was Vera Fokina, who was also a great dancer.
Fokine also acquired popularity in New Zealand and Australia. In Australia he worked for Paganini, Le Coq d'or and Papillons and Cendrillon. Till now he is remembered for his expressive choreography. Through the dance movements he could very easily express emotion. In 1942 this renowned choreographer passed away.
