Saint Petersburg Legislative Assembly is the legislative wing of the city government. The Legislature in St. Petersburg is an appendage of the Russian federal government based on the principles of division of state authority and democracy. The Legislative Assembly in St. Petersburg represents the City Duma or Parliament. It is also referred to as the Saint Petersburg Council of People's Deputies, which had its initiation in 1994.
The Assembly is made up of 50 members elected by the process of proportional representation for tenure of 4 years. The Chairman of the St. Petersburg Legislative Assembly is a member of the Russian Federation Council.
