Imperial Academy of Arts is one of the leading cultural institutes of Russia. The educational institution offers the pupils with an opportunity to study all the graphic and pictorial genres along with architectural and sculptural art.
The academy is known to have produced many internationally acclaimed painters. On 6th November, 1757 this academy was instituted under the name "Academy of Three Noblest Arts" at Sadovaya Street. The Count Ivan Shuvalov took the initiative to set up open this educational institution.

A. Ivanov, K. Bryullov, the painter of "The Last Day of Pompeii" also studied here. In the year 1894, he won the Grand Prix. Emperor Nicholas I financially contributed to this academy. From the period between 1830 and 1833, the Imperial Academy of Arts underwent severe structural renovation. This academy comprises a conference hall and a gallery. Since the year 1843 the Russian Imperial family has taken the responsibility to supervise the activities of this Russian institute.
Presently, St Petersburg Academy of Arts is also working hard for establishing provincial art colleges and schools. This academy is now closely associated with Russian Art Museum. Zurab K. Tsereteli is the president of this institute.
