Governor of Saint Petersburg is the administrative head of the city government. The Governor is helped in her administrative functions by a team of Vice-Governors and Committees headed by Chairpersons. Matvienko Valentina Ivanovna is the present Governor of St. Petersburg since 2003.

Matvienko Valentina Ivanovna was born in Shepetovka in Ukraine in 1949. In 1972 she graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Chemistry and Pharmaceutics, and in 1985 graduated from the Academy of Social Sciences of the Communist Party Central Committee. Matvienko Ivanovna in 1991 attended a course for high-ranked bureaucrats at the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Affairs Ministry.
