Gostiny Dvor


Gostiny Dvor is a big department store in the city of Saint Petersburg. Presently, it has become a prominent shopping mall. It is one of the oldest shopping malls in the world. Between the period of 1757 and 1785 this center was constructed. Jean-Baptiste M. Vallin de la Mothe was the chief designer of this shopping complex. Originally it comprised 178 separate shops, but during the Siege of Leningrad, this mall was completely demolished. Soon after its reconstruction work started and it became the biggest shopping mall in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

Description of Gostiny Dvor

Gostiny Dvor looks similar to San Marco Square, Venice. Often exhibitions are also held over here. Throughout the year a number of tourists come to see this architectural monument. Since the early part of
18th century, it is catering to the needs of the local as well as international shoppers. In the first floor of this mall there are footwear, souvenirs, cosmetic and music stores.

On the other hand, on the 2nd floor, designer clothes are sold. Toys and hats also remain available in the stalls of this floor. In all the seasons, this mall provides discount on different products. Shoppers are also allowed to purchase goods on credit.
