Elsa Brändström was born on 26th March, 1888 in Saint Petersburg. Her father was General Edvard Brandstrom and mother was Anna Eschelsson. Elsa Brändström was often called "The Angel of Siberia" for offering assistance to the German prisoners of World War I.
Elsa Brändström and Her Childhood
Elsa Brändström's childhood days were spent in Sweden. She got herself enrolled to the Anna Sandström Teachers Training College and studied there for two years. In the year 1908 she returned to Saint Petersburg. When First World War broke out she was there in Saint Petersburg and played the role of a nurse in the Russian army.

Thereafter she went to Siberia. There she introduced few medical treatments to the German prisoners. However, the October Revolution of 1917 created

obstacles in her work, but this could not stop her from the philanthropic works. Finally in 1920 she was imprisoned. After she was released, she went back to
Sweden and started to raise fund for German prisoners.
She also wrote "Among prisoners of war in Russia and Siberia". She became the owner of a mill named Schreibermühle. This place was used as the resocialization hub for the former German soldiers. Few years later she made a trip to United States. By delivering her powerful speeches she raised funds for those traumatized soldiers. She went to Sweden and Russia with the same intention.
Elsa Brändström had set up a home for children's care. This center was known by the name Neusorge. This great lady tied her knot with Robert Ulich in the year 1929. She is also remembered for setting up the Elsa-Brändström-Foundation for female. In 1932 she gave birth to her daughter Brita. She also contributed for many other organizations, such as, Care (European Cooperative for American Relief) and Cralog (Council of Relief Agencies in Germany).
