Catherine Garden in Saint Petersburg is located in the proximity of the Alexandrinnsky Theater in the Ploshchad Ostrovskogo. Carlo Rossi had created the original plans of the Catherine Garden.
The other name, by which the locals know the Catherine Garden is Katya's Little Garden. On one side of the park is located the theater hall and on another side, the Nevsky Prospect. The Catherine Garden is located close to the Public Library and the Anichkov Palace.

Petersburg dates back to 1820. The entire Alexander Square was developed and planned between the years 1816 and 1832. The statue of Catherine the Great was put up in 1873 and the square too was renovated around this time. It was because of the erection of the statue that the garden was so named as Catherine the Great. The reconstruction works continued for seven years from 1873 to 1880.
The library near the Catherine Garden too was designed by Carlo Rossi and houses some of the most important and valued books in Russia. The garden has spectacular layout of shrubs and greenery. Tourists, library goers and theater goers can have a good time walking around the park. Many artists choose this place as the venue of painting because the soothing ambiance is indeed favorable for such work.
