The construction work of Bolsheokhtinsky Bridge begun in 1909 and on October 26, 1911 the bridge was opened to the common people. Comprising of 3 spans, the middle span is well-protected by the granite towers, that are made following the architectural style of Romans. This middle span is approximately 14.6 meters broad. The other 2 spans are supported by the 136 meter long beams.
Its sudden rising central span has made this bridge different from all other Russian bridges. The constructors of this bridge have used electro-mechanical system for building it.

The towers of this bridge are constructed in the design of quadrilateral cubes. Small half circle towers can be seen in one part of the bridge.
