Baltic House Theatre


One of the prominent Saint Petersburg Theatres,Baltic House Theatre was founded in 1936. Originally known as the Leningrad State Theatre, Baltic House Theatre contributed immensely to the development of the theatrical art of Russia.

Baltic House Theatre- The Nurturing Hub of Russian Drama

The Baltic House is the name of The Baltic House Theatre that officially came to be known as Saint Petersburg State Theatre in the year of 1991. The Red Theatre and the Working Youth Theatre helped in shaping the Baltic House Theatre of Saint Petersburg during the middle of 1920 and 1930. The Baltic House Theatre began to stage plays from the year of 1939.

Located in 4, Alexandrovsky Park in Gorkovskaya area of Saint Petersburg, the Baltic House Theatre is an important landmark of the city. The Baltic House Theatre staged several plays of famous play writers, prominent among which includes R. Bykov, V. Kozhin, K. Ginkas, P. Khomsky, G. Oporkov, M. Chezhegov and G. Yanovskaya.

Many notable theatre personalities displayed their talents on the stage of Baltic House Theatre. O. Dal, T. Doronina, Y. Panich, Y. Tolubeev, A. Balter, N. Urgant, E. Vitorgan, V. Chestnokov, and L. Malevannaya are some of the famous actors who performed in the Baltic House Theatre.

The Baltic House Theatre hosts the International Theatre Festival. The theatre hall played an important role in maintaining strong ties between countries across the globe through stage play of dramas.

At present, Vladimir Tykke holds the post of Director in the Baltic House Theatre. For further development of theatre and dramas, the Baltic House Theatre instituted The Theatre XXI Century. The Farces Theatre is another notable hall which is situated within the premises of the Baltic House Theatre that helps in cultivating the art of drama among the artists.
