The Alexander Nevsky Monastery comprises several old buildings and graves of renowned Russian personalities from different fields. Established in the year of 1710 by Peter the Great, the Alexander Nevsky Monastery reflects the rich architectural splendor of the ancient times.
Alexander Nevsky Monastery- A Religious Monument
The new Church was built in the year of 1724 by Domenico Trezzini within the premises of Alexander Nevsky Monastery complex. The newly built Church derived its name from Alexander Nevsky who was believed to be a holy man by the Orthodox Russian Church. After the demise of the holy soul, the remains of Alexander Nevsky were brought from Vladimir to church. The day when the remains were brought to church, is observed with great religious fervor and festivity.
Queen Elizabeth had decided that the remains of Alexander Nevsky be placed in a silver shrine. The Silver Shrine was later shifted to the newly constructed

Cathedral in the year of 1790. In 1797, the Cathedral was awarded a highest position in the hierarchy of Russian Church by Emperor Paul.
During the 20th century, the Alexander Nevsky Monastery complex had 16 Churches, out of which only five churches had withstood the passage of time. The Alexander Nevsky Monastery complex at present comprise the religious shrines of the Joy of All Those Who Mourn, The Holy Trinity Cathedral, the Church of St. Nicholas, the Church of the Holy Mother of God and the Church of St. Lazarus.
