Alexander Garden in Saint Petersburg is located close to the Palace square, which is in the central part of the Saint Petersburg city. The garden has been constructed on the sight of the admiralty square. The sight formerly housed the fortifications of the admiralty. The Alexander garden was founded in the year 1872 and the construction work was completed two years later.
The Garden was constructed in honor of Peter the Great to commemorate his 200th birthday but was named after Emperor Alexander II who inaugurated the garden. The entire layout of the Alexander Garden was the brainchild of Alexander Geschwend.
