Alexander Borodin was a notable Russian composer. On November 12, 1833 he was born in Saint Petersburg. Russian Prince Gedianov was his father and his mother was Madame Antonova. Since his childhood he developed his interest in music. Though he earned his livelihood by teaching at the Medico-Surgical Academy, his passion for music never died down. His contribution in the field of Russian operas is really unforgettable.
Student Life of Alexander Borodin
In the year 1850 Alexander Borodin got admission in Saint Petersburg's Medico-Surgical Academy. There he studied Botany, Anatomy, Crystallography, Chemistry and Zoology. While doing his graduation Alexander Borodin served as a house surgeon for 1 year. Thereafter for 3 years he did extensive study on advanced science. Finally in 1862 he got the opportunity to teach the students of the Medico-Surgical Academy. In 1872 he took active role to introduce medical programs for women.
Alexander Borodin and His Music Career
Alexander Porfiryevich Borodin was closely associated with some of the prominent literary figures like Rimsky-Korsakov, Mussorgsky, Balakirev and Cui since 1864. All five of them claimed to be the Russian patriots and

supported spontaneity in music.
In 1863 Mr. Borodin got married to a talented pianist Ekaterina Protopopova and continued his lectureship as well as engrossed himself in writing epics. After the death of Modest Mussorgsky, in 1881 he started to write string quartet.
Prince Igor- A Literary Marvel of Alexander Borodin
Prince Igor is the best literary creation of Alexander Borodin, but as he died in 1887 this work remained unfinished. The central character of this epic is Prince Igor who got imprisoned along with his son Vladimir by Khan Konchak (the leader of Polovtsian).
Major Works of Alexander Borodin
Some other major works of Alexander Borodin include The Bogatïrs (an opera-farce, 1867), one act of Mlada (an opera-ballet 1872) and In the Steppes of Central Asia (a musical picture 1880). In most of the works of Borodin, one can feel the touch of romance.
On the 15th of February, 1887 Borodin died of heart attack. In that day he took part in a fancy dress event and dressed himself in Russian attire. He was dancing vigorously, when he fell down and died from a heart artery burst.
