Alexander Blok was one of the most talented lyrical poets of Russia. He was born on November 16, 1880 in to an aristocrat family of Saint Petersburg. His father Alexander L. Blok was a lecturer of Warsaw University, whereas his mother Alexandra Beketova was a writer by profession.
Alexander Blok did his graduation from Gymnasium and then entered St. Petersburg University for studying law. After 3 years he shifted to the Philosophy Department. In the year of 1903 he tied his knot with Lyubov Mendeleeva (the daughter of a renowned scientist). Thereafter Alexander Blok became one of the prominent members of the Symbolists Association of Solovyov and Bely that gave a major thrust to his writing career.

"Verses on a Beautiful Lady" was his first book. It was published in the year 1904 and brought him immense popularity. After this, he wrote "The City" in 1906 and "Mask of Snow" in 1907. In the same year (1907) he also wrote Inadvertent Joy, Unknown Woman and Land in Snow and Free Thoughts. "Free Thoughts" is indeed one of his best-written blank verse collections.

Alexander Blok, As a Playwright and An Essayist
Alexander Blok was not only a poet, he had also shown his excellence in writing plays and essays. In 1911 his "Nocturnal Hours" was published, whereas, in 1913 he wrote the famous play "Rose and the Cross". Two years later, one of his best verse epic, Garden of Nightingales was published. The Russian Revolution also influenced the work of this well-known writer.
Popular Writings of Mr. Blok
In 1918 Mr. Blok wrote an essay "Intelligentsia and Revolution" that was followed by a verse epic "The Twelve". Moreover, he wrote "The Scythians" and in the year 1921 he became the head of Petrograd's Union of All-Russian Poets.
Some other popular writings of Aleksandrovich Blok include Retribution (verse epic) and Yevgeny Bonver's Translations of Poetry. On 7th August, 1922 this internationally acclaimed writer died of venereal disease.
