Moscow is the capital of Russia. It is the country's principal political, economic, financial, educational, and transportation center. Being a major economic center, the city is home to a large number of billionaires. It is considered as one of the most expensive cities in the world. Moscow serves as home to many scientific and educational institutions. It is also the seat of power for the Russian Federation. Like all capital cities, Moscow hosts all the foreign embassies and diplomats representing a multitude of nations in Russia. The city was the capital of former Soviet Union and Muscovite Russia was the pre-Imperial Russian state. Moscow, the site of the famous Kremlin, also serves as the ceremonial residence of the President. The entire city of Moscow is headed by one mayor.

Area & Location: The city lies on Moskva River. As it lies west of the Ural Mountains, Moscow is considered a European city. The city covers a total area of 1,081 sq. km. Located 55º45'8? Latitude North and 37º37'56? Longitude East, the city has a population of 10,415,400 with a density of 8537.2 per sq. km.

Transportation: Moscow possesses a complex transport system. Moscow has around five airports that serve as the main entry points of the foreign visitors. The city also has two passenger river terminials that serve as regular motorship routes. Its local transport includes the Moscow Metro, a system famous for its art, murals, mosaics and ornate chandeliers. It has around underground 12 lines with 171 stations.
